A non-destructive reinforcement bracket for the 4th Gen Mazda Miata MX-5 side skirts.

Tools Used:
Autodesk Fusion 360, Custom 3D Printer
Year:
2018

This reinforcement bracket was specifically designed to insert (without hardware or drilling) inside of existing grooves of the MX-5 side skirts in a way to prevent the side skirt from sliding rearward in the event that a sudden impact breaks the OEM clips allowing the panels to slide rearward and detach from the body.

This bracket snaps into place in-between the side step molding and the 2nd OEM clip (Clip B). The hole in the bracket is meant to accommodate an M3 machine screw to make removal of this reinforcement bracket much easier as it is designed to be a somewhat snug snap fit.

Designs shown are rendered in the CAD software but are manufactured on a 3D Printer

Material: Polycarbonate, Nylon/Carbon Fiber

Colors: Clear, Black

First prototype using PLA material
Final version using Nylon Carbon Fiber for higher impact strength and chemical resistance
